Repairs to Ramp Servicing Rochdale Canal

Parkwood Contractors in partnership with Bar Preservation has recently completed repair works to a badly cracked retaining wall alongside the Rochdale Canal for Manchester Highways.  The wall was cracked and unstable and was dangerous for pedestrian use.  The wall was taken down, stabilised beneath using crack stitching and ground anchors then finished with a re-enforced concrete coping detail and new galvanised railings.

‘Timms Windmill’, Goole for Morrison's Supermarkets.

Structural Repairs and Timber Decay removal at windmill in GooleParkwood Contractors in partnership with BAR Preservation has finalised works restoring a Grade II listed windmill for Morrison's Supermarkets at their new store at Boothferry Road, Goole.

The windmill was in a poor state with large structural cracks and timber decay from years of being disused.

Most of the existing windows had been filled in over the years, and several structures had been built around the windmill with some walls being rendered in parts. Holes had been punctured through the external walls for the introduction of services.

When the industrial units were finally demolished to make way for the proposed sale and re-development of the site, the windmill became somewhat of an eyesore with squatters and vandals moving in.

Building restoration and specialist renovation on windmill in GooleWorking alongside the project Architects, Structural Engineers and local conservation officers, Parkwood Contractors have undertaken a full schedule of repairs to the superstructure including:

  • Crack Repairs and stitching.
  • Removal and replacement of the Tar coating
  • Removal of brickwork from original openings and replacement with sliding ‘Yorkshire Sash’ type timber frames.
  • Removal of temporary roof and installation of new roof and full timber roof structure.
  • Specialist timber replacement and resin repairs.
  • Brick repairs using specialist lime mortars.

Making Music with Major Basement Renovation.

BAR Preservation has been successful in winning a full refurbishment project of a large city centre basement to provide thirteen recording studio suites. Our skilled renovations team will be installing a new fire escape, excavating the rear courtyard of the building, fully waterproofing the basement and completing all general building renovations and refurbishment.

In addition to the normal building and joinery work that is required with the conversion of a basement area the BAR Preservation team will be erecting specialist sound reducing partitions; these will reduce the noise transmission between the suites and the multi-occupancy building above.

BAR Preservation is a structural repair and preservation specialist based in Manchester and working across the North West. For a damp survey, a wall tie survey, a structural survey, a timber survey or any other building survey click or call 0161 655 3480 now.
