Lateral Restraints are usually installed at the request of a structural engineer, the purpose of a lateral restraint is generally to tie floor timbers or ceiling timbers to masonry walls in order to arrest or prevent bowing in walls.

Lateral restraints were traditionally internal steel straps, installed by removing floor boards. BAR Preservation install these traditional straps along with more modern lateral restraint systems which avoid the need to lift large amounts of floor boarding and thus avoid disruption, particularly in occupied property.

They work quickly and efficiently, for example they have installed lateral restraints on up to twenty houses a week on a housing estate for a council.
