Installation of specialist fixings for the new Second City Crossing.
BAR Preservation alongside Parkwood Contractors have been working with Transport for Greater Manchester and several specialist contractors for the last 18 Months on the Second City Crossing (2CC) for the City Centre Metrolink.
BAR / Parkwood have been responsible for the installation of the wall fixings which are being used to suspend the cabling at around 7m from the ground.
The vast majority of the fixings were bespoke Cintec Anchors with several other shorter Hilti resin fixings. The works were carried out from van and rail mounted cherry pickers during twilight / night hours to
minimise disruption to the city centre. Pull out tests of 20Kn + were required and satisfactorily obtained on all fixings the lengths of which were anything between 150mm to 2000mm. Anchors were installed on many iconic buildings such as Manchester Town Hall, Midland Hotel and The Corn Exchange. In total 19 listed building consents were required and the works had to be approved by English Heritage and the local authority.
Our company received a high level of praise for its role in the works which has led to our involvement in similar works being undertaken in Birmingham.
